She is fondly remembered for her stash of candies brought to encourage and reward student efforts. In Stratford, Blanche was a member of the LOVE program where she read and was read to by many students of the Glen Stewart Elementary School. For the next eight years, until his death, she put her skills to use providing personal care for him at their new home in Bellevue Cove, Stratford. In 1983, her husband suffered a debilitating stroke. Satisfying her desire to be a nurse, in 1977 she became a resident care worker at Livingston McArthur Nursing Home, now called the Atlantic Baptist Nursing Home. They supported the early development of youth programs including the Home and School Association, Boy Scouts and Girl Guides, minor hockey, and an outdoor rink near the current Cody Bank Arena.įor over three decades,1950’s to the 1970’s, Blanche was well known for her employment in the food service business at the Peter Pan and from her own cafeteria, Mrs Mac’s, at the Ellis Brothers Shopping Centre. Blanche was an active member of the Women’s Institute and the C.W.L. Blanche and John were major supporters in the construction of the Village Hall which still serves as a community meeting place. John served 10 years as a member of the Village Council and upon its incorporation in 1963, was its first Chief Commissioner. She was truly an active member of the greatest generation who rose to the challenge of the Great Depression, the Second World War, the Cold War and an unprecedented rate of change to build PEI and the country.īlanche and her husband John were pioneers in the development of the Village of Sherwood. She was born during the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1919 and died during the current Covid-19 pandemic. Blanche is also mourned by nephew Fulton Hamill (Elizabeth), her niece Dorothy Johnston and several grand-nieces and nephews, friends and neighbours.īlanche was predeceased by her parents Archibald and Lavinia (nee Brennan) Campbell and six siblings: Irene Berryman (Ed), Douglas Campbell, Gladys Hamill (Russell), Chief P.O. Two children, Catherine in 1947 and Noel in 1979 predeceased her.
Born Jin Clermont PEI she was in her 102nd year.īlanche was the devoted wife of John Frederick MacAleer (deceased) and is survived by her son Weston MacAleer (Connie), daughter Bethany (Ray deceased) Elliott, daughter-in-law Deborah Salter, (Noel deceased) and five grand-children Gillian King, Darren MacAleer (Lannia Pan), Thomas Elliott (Shannon), Jennifer Elliott Hubert (Scott), Jonathan Elliott and three great grandchildren Olivia King, Julia Pan MacAleer and Jaxon Hubert. The death occurred peacefully at the Mount Continuing Care Community in Charlottetown on Friday, March 12, with her son, Wes, by her side.
